Alan L. Waltner, 71, was born Nov. 29, 1945, in Kingman, Kansas to Harvey and Ann Krehbiel Waltner.
He was raised in Pretty Prairie attending schools there until graduation in 1963 from Pretty Prairie High School. He graduated from McPherson College in 1967 with a degree in Agriculture.
In 1969, Alan along with his wife Lila, started dairy farming on the home place at Pretty Prairie. He farmed until 1997.
He then worked for NRCS until he retired. He took great pride in being a farmer.
Throughout his many years he served on many boards; Reno Co. Extenstion, MCC boards, Pretty Prairie school board as well as the Kingman County Club board. Alan loved playing golf and racquetball.
Alan is survived by his two sons and their wives, Brent and Betsy, and Lance and Jennifer; 4 grandchildren, Mason, Amber, Dylan and Sydney; his companion Nancy McConnell; his sister Betty Krehbiel; and brother Eugene Waltner. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of forty years Lila.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 15, 2017, at the First Mennonite Church, Pretty Prairie. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Sunday at the Livingston Funeral Home with the family present from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in the First Mennonite Church Cemetery.
Memorials may be made with the MCC Relief Sale or McPherson College both in care of Livingston Funeral Home.
