ALLEN L. STUCKY
Dateline/Pretty Prairie
Allen L. Stucky, son of Daniel J and Twila B. (McClure) Stucky, born October 10, 1938, on his parent's tenth wedding anniversary in the rural Pretty Prairie house where he lived most of his life, went to be with his Savior Jesus Christ September 3, 2017 at Prairie Sunset Home.
Allen did many things. He grew up on the farm, worked as a carpenter with his Dad, was a Boy Scout, a camera bug like his mother, worked at the school newspaper, and was a printer's helper on the local newspaper as he went to school first grade through graduation in Pretty Prairie. While obtaining a bachelor's degree in Chemistry at Sterling College, Allen took photographs for the college as well as working for a studio that took portraits of school children and photographed weddings. He also worked as a draftsman for a local Sterling business.
Allen met and married Beverely Parnell on December 26, 1959, while Beverly was attending Hutchinson Community College. They met over a summer at a youth group sponsored by the Arlington and Pretty Prairie Presbyterian churches. Allen graduated from Sterling College in 1960, and went on to serve as an assistant professor at Kansas State University while he worked on his Master's degree.
After college Allen worked for a laboratory in Hutchinson testing everything from milk to water to blood. In those days a blood test was required before you could get married. They moved to Decatur, Illinois where Allen worked as a chemist for A.E. Staley, a batch engineer for Pittsburgh Plate Class (PPG) in Mt. Zion, Illinois, and a quality control chemist for Mallinckrodt Pharmaceutical.
In 1978 the family moved back to the farm in Pretty Prairie, where Allen worked as a self-employed farmer, carpenter, painter, tree service, and roofer. After a few years he joined his wife Beverely who owned the H&R Block franchises in Kingman, Goddard, and Harper. They ran these businesses for the next thirty years, along with the Word of Life Bookstore in Kingman
Allen leaves his wife Beverely, and sons Roy L. and Tracy A. Stucky. Roy's family consists of his wife Janis and two sons Ryan and Taylor. Tracy's family consists of his wife Sheral along with three stepsons and five grandchildren.
