Dorothy M.
"Dottie" Jones
December 1, 1928 – December 7, 2023
DOROTHY M. "DOTTIE" JONES
Dateline/Pretty Prairie
Dorothy M (Stucky) Jones was born Dec 1, 1928, to Henry S and Lena (Schwartz) Stucky in
Pretty Prairie , Ks. She was the youngest of 4 girls born into this loving family. Sisters Ruby
Stucky, Stella Graber, and Della Musselman all preceded her in death.
Dottie, as she was most commonly called, grew up searching for all the knowledge she could soak in from her
family and her surroundings. She loved to learn and experience all life had to give from
hunting with her dad, to watching him create with his carvings, to reading anything and
everything she could. Dottie graduated as valedictorian of her HS class at Pretty Prairie HS.
Dottie chose not to further her formal education, though she had opportunities, but instead
continued to learn and experience life as a mother and wife. Dottie and Homer had two sons,
Tom and Bruce Graber, who gave her great joy and happiness. She often said they were her
reason for living and she took great pride and joy in providing them with every opportunity
she could for them to be successful and enjoy life as much as she did from driving them to
summer track meets to making sure both got a college education. Dottie lost her loving son
Tom on Nov 13, 2020.
Dottie worked as a hairdresser in Pretty Prairie for 20 yrs while her sons were in school,
working long hours to be able to take care of so many folks who also worked themselves.
Dottie then found herself working as a secretary for Happiness Cards in Kingman Ks,
Edmiston Oil in Wichita Ks, and also as a Floral arranger in several different shops. But
Dottie's love was the arts - writing, acting, sculpting, and painting gave her the greatest joy.
She wrote a weekly column for the Pretty Prairie Times for many years giving her views on
everything from politics, religion, common sense, life in general, and anything else that
crossed her mind, called "The City Mouse".
Dottie was a member of the United Methodist Church of Pretty Prairie.
She is survived by son Bruce Graber and his wife Mary and daughter-in-law Colleen Graber, granddaughter
Andi Pelnar and husband Tony, granddaughter Callie Peterson and husband Lt Col
John Peterson, and 4 great grandchildren: Tucker and Treyton Pelnar and Johnny and Taylor
Peterson.
