Obituary

Earline Rose Hockensmith Macy passed away March 23, 2017, in Kingman at the age of 99. She was born February 15, 1918, in Corsica, South Dakota, the fourth of five children born to Lou Earl and Gertrude (Fenenga) Hockensmith. The family later settled in Mnneapolis, Kansas where Earline graduated high school with the class of 1935.

On March 7, 1937, she was united in marriage to Wayne C. Macy in Belleville, Kansas, and to this union, three children were born. Phyllis Jean, Bill Charles and Barbara Jill. The family moved from Hutchinson to Kingman in 1944 when Wayne Macy became the Rainbo Bread salesman for many years and Earline operated the Eagles Roost. They moved to Toledo, Ohio in 1958 and resided there until the death of Wayne in 1978.

Earline was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother. She was a life-long golf enthusiast and enjoyed playing into her eighties. She won many club championships and had accomplished the coveted hole-in-one while playing in her seventies. She especially enjoyed teaching the game to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Earline is survived by her son Bill Macy (Susan) of Lincoln, Nebraska; daughter Barbara Jill Branden (Jim) of Wichita; and son-in-law Carl Mills. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her daughter Phyllis Macy-Mills; her parents; three sisters; a brother; son-in-law Marion Ramsey; and grandson William Macy Messenger. At her death, she was the oldest living decedent of the Hockensmith family line.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 30, 2017, at the Livingston Funeral Home, Kingman with the family receiving friends from 10:30 a.m. until service time. Graveside services for the interment of her cremains will take place at a later date next to her husband in the Morrison Cemetery in rural Cloud County, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the Kingman Carnegie Library or First Presbyeterian Church of Kingman.
