HERBERT E. "GENE" HIRST

Herbert E. "Gene" Hirst, 95, died Sept. 15, 2021 at Pretty Prairie.

He was born Aug. 22, 1926, at Hutchinson the son of Harvey "Bert" and Juanita Buchanan Hirst.  A longtime resident of Pretty Prairie, he was the former owner/operator of Hirst and Son Supply.

Gene was a member of the Pretty Prairie United Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M., the Pretty Prairie Booster Club and Volunteer Fire Dept., the Salt Miners, and was a WWII Navy veteran.

On June 10, 1944, he married Bertha Mae Miller; she died in Sept. 2007.  Survivors include sons Larry and Charles; daughter Anita Field and Cindy Hedrick; brother Thomas; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.  He was also preceded in death by a son David.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday at the Pretty Prairie United Methodist Church.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time the Church.
