ERNEST GLOYD DIXON

Ernest Gloyd Dixon, 91, died May 21, 2016.

He was born May 14, 1925, at Cleveland, Kansas the son of Lloyd Edward and Gladys Yvonne Van Arsdale Dixon. He married Lyna Louise Stuart on Sept. 30, 1945. Gloyd was the longtime owner of Dixon's True Value Hardware in Kingman. As a community leader, he was a member of the Kingman Lion's Club, USD 331 school board, the Chamber of Commerce, Kingman Industrial Development Corporation, Ninnescah Lodge #230, all of Kingman; and the Midian Shrine. He served as President/Chairman of many of those organizations as well as being a Past Master of the Lodge. A member of the Kingman United Methodist Church, he served on the board of trustees and the Administrative Council. As a WWII veteran, he participated in the 2010 Kansas Honor Flight. Gloyd was an avid sports fan, especially supporting the Kingman Eagles and the Wichita State Shockers.

Gloyd was preceded in death by his parents; sister Elizabeth Fisher; brothers Howard, Cortland, Eugene, Jack, Lawrence and Garry; and great-grandson Elijah. Survivors include his wife Lyna; daughter Teri (Greg) Harpool; sons Chris, Lance (Patricia), Todd (Nancy) and Stephen (Tammy); 13 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; brother Richard, sister Anna Marie Taber; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the Kingman United Methodist Church. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, at the Livingston Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will be at the Cleveland Cemetery.

Memorials may be made with the Kingman United Methodist Church and Wheatlands Health Care Center, both in care of the funeral home.
