ERNEST A. "ERNIE" WAPELHORST

Ernest A. "Ernie" Wapelhorst, 78, died March 27, 2021, at his home in Kingman.

He was born Aug. 13, 1942, at Colwich, Kansas the son of Leo and Wally Orth Wapelhorst.  A longtime Kingman resident, he was a retired federal meat inspector and former owner of Ernie's Meat and Cheeses.

Ernie was a member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church, Kingman; and was former President of the Kansas Meat Processors Association.

On July 27, 1997, he married Rita Osner Weniger; she died June 3, 2020.  Survivors include sons Alan, Denny, Kent and Kevin; step-children Crystal Boyer and Dustin Weninger; brothers Leo, Tom, and Bill; and sisters Alice Schoenhofer, Mary Downing and Annette Wapelhorst; 11 grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.  He was also preceded in death by a brother Charlie.

Family visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 5, 2021 followed by a parish rosary at 10:00 a.m., and Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m., all at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Kingman.

Memorials may be made with St. Jude Children's Hospital in care of Livingston Funeral Home.
