Frederick Hubert "Bert" Langley, age 92, passed away on April 24th, 2018, in Kingman, Kansas. Bert was born on March 26, 1926, in Piggott, Arkansas. Bert was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; his parents, Frederick and Sylvia Langley; his sisters, Ravelle Langley (infant) and Pauline Williams; his brothers, Jack and Willard Langley.

He was raised in the Arkansas hills, growing up picking cotton on the family farm near Piggott. He attended the country elementary one room schoolhouse and Piggott High School.

Bert was drafted into the United States Army his senior year of high school and entered the U.S. Army upon graduation in May 1944. He was immediately sent to anti-aircraft training and then infantry training. In 1945, Bert was shipped to France and also served in Belgium and Germany. Returning from World War II, he entered the University of Missouri at the age of twenty where he met Betty, the love of his life.

Bert was married to Betty Gayle Cottrell on July 29, 1950. After graduating from the University of Missouri, he and Betty moved to Piggott, Arkansas, where he taught Vocational Agriculture at the local high school for five years. He left the teaching profession to work for Ralston Purina Company. With Purina, the family moved to Fulton, Missouri, then Abilene and Emporia, Kansas. In 1961, they moved to Kingman, Kansas, where they purchased a Phillips 66 distributorship.

Bert and Betty had three children: Gayle, Dean (Linda), and Janell (Lanny). Six grandchildren: Kale (Brooke), Kayla (Buck), Kelsie, Dylan, Allie, and Lauren. Four great grandchildren: Aubrey, Ronja, Knox, and Emilio.

Bert was active in the Kingman community, taking leadership roles in the Kingman United Methodist Church, Lion's Club, State Bank of Kingman, Masonic Lodge, Meridian Shriner, and City Government. In his spare time he enjoyed golfing and playing bridge. He retired after selling Langley Oil and Gas Company in 1991, and traveled with Betty, spending a lot of time wintering in their second home in Arizona.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 12, 2018 at the Kingman United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m.. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, May 11, 2018 at the Livingston Funeral Home, Kingman. Burial will be in the Walnut Hill Cemetery.

Memorials may be made with the Kingman United Methodist Church or Wheatlands Healthcare Center, both in care of the funeral home.
