HELEN VIERTHALER

Helen M. Vierthaler, 100, died Sept. 15, 2026 at Wheatlands Health Care Center, Kingman.

She was born Sept. 23, 1925, at Willowdale, Kansas the daughter of Edward H. and Leona Miller Kanngieser. A resident of the Zenda community since 1942, she was the retired owner of Leon’s Jack and Jill and Leon’s Grocery Store retiring after forty-eight years.

Helen was a member of the St. John Catholic Church and the St. Elizabeth Altar Society, both of Zenda.

On Nov. 12, 1946, she married Leon Vierthaler at Zenda; he died Jan. 3, 1989. Survivors include daughters Elaine Nowak, Judy Jones and Karen Stucky ; brother Ed Kanngieser and Lawrence Kanngiesser; sister Mary Bayer; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by son Edward Vierthaler; daughter Mary Hellman; sisters Catherine Blasi, Ruth Mantooth, Caroline Kimminau and Joyce Vierthaler; and a granddaughter Jennifer Clouse.

Parish rosary will be 7:00 p.m., Monday, Sept. 21, 2026 at the Livingston Funeral Home, Kingman with the family receiving friends prior to the rosary. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2026 at the St. John Catholic Church, Zenda. Burial will be in the St. John Catholic Cemetery, East of Zenda.

Memorials may be made with the St. John Catholic Church, Rivercross Hospice or Wheatlands Health Care Center and may be mailed to Livingston Funeral Home, 1830 N. Main, Kingman KS 67068.
