Irene Adele McBurney, 85, died July 1, 2023, at Wheatlands Health Care Center, Kingman.

She was born December 12, 1937, at Grace Hospital, Hutchinson the daughter of Gus and Florence Graber Boese.

Irene grew up in many small towns in Kansas starting with Hutchinson.  The family frequently moved as Gus looked for work as a tractor mechanic with International Harvester, including Pretty Prairie, St. John, Ellis, and Kendall, Kansas finally settling in Kingman in 1954.

As a graduate of the Class of 1956, Irene worked with the local newspaper.  An offer opened to hire Irene as a teller with the Kansas State Bank of Kingman, and she made banking a career until retiring in 1977.

On December 31, 1976, Irene married Cleland McBurney and became a step-mother to Robyn (Mike Miller) McBurney, Sharon (Tom) Kostner and Sally (John) McLaughlin; step-grandchildren Russell (Michelle) Kostner, Nick (Nichole) Kostner, Haley Miller and Robert McLaughlin; step-great grandchildren, Mason & Emma Kostner; sisters Neva Maerz, Janet (Raymond) Henry, Jean McKnight, Betty Boese, Irma (Max) Voran; and brother Ken (Connie) Boese.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 6, 2023, at the First Presbyterian Church of Kingman.  Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday at the Livingston Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  Interment will be in the Waterloo Cemetery.

Memorials may be made with Rivercross Hospice, Wheatlands Health Care Center or the First Presbyterian Church, all in care of the funeral home.
