IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James Alvin
"Jim" Cox
January 3, 1957 – July 13, 2019
James "Jim" Alvin Cox, born on January 3, 1957 in Kingman, Kansas, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 62, the morning of July 13, 2019 at University Medical Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, his current city of residence. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Willa (Huddleston) Cox.
Jim established his incredible work ethic at an early age. Growing up in Kingman, he spent many hours helping his dad with the family-owned real estate agency. Once Jim was old enough to obtain a summer job, he worked for Kingman County – helping to build the new Highway 54 outside of town. Jim graduated valedictorian of his class from Kingman High School in 1975. He went on to graduate with honors from the University of Kansas in 1979, majoring in accounting, before going on to become a licensed CPA. He was incredibly proud to be a Jayhawk and loved all things KU basketball. Jim served as a tax partner with Ernst & Young accounting firm in Kansas City until 1995 at which time he transferred within the firm to their San Francisco office. He retired from Ernst & Young in 2013 and had been running his own consulting practice in Las Vegas most recently. Jim enjoyed traveling around the world, spending time with his family and friends, as well as following his favorite sports teams. He loved music and could often be found listening to live piano anywhere it was offered. Jim leaves behind his wife, Aime Sibley, as well as his four children: Jennifer Hamm and her husband Matt (Newton, KS), Jessica Schultz and her husband Joseph (Leawood, KS), Brooke Cox (Alamo, CA), Trent Cox (Alamo, CA) and two granddaughters, Sophie and Lila Hamm. Jim is also survived by his brother, Marvin Cox, Jr. and family of Wichita, KS, as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins. Jim was a loving husband and father, an amazing man, a wonderful friend and a trusted confidant. Jim was a respected businessman and well-regarded as a tax genius. The world lost a bright light and brilliant mind with Jim's passing.
