JANE LOUISE (THOMAS) IMEL

Jane Louise (Thomas) Imel, 90, of Wichita, and a longtime Kingman Ks. resident, died August 1, 2017 at Via Christi Village McLean, Wichita. Jane was born to popular Wichita architect Glen H. Thomas and homemaker Onus P. (Deichman) Thomas on August 15, 1926 at Wesley Hospital, Wichita.
Jane attended Cottey College, transferring to K-State where she met Clarence Imel. They were married on May 28, 1949 at St. Patrick's Church, Wichita; they returned to K-State for her graduation on May 29, 1949 with a degree in Home Economics. The couple moved to Kingman, Ks. In 1950 where Clarence was a County Extension Agent and Jane became a homemaker. In 1960 they purchased the Kingman Flower Shop and Greenhouse, selling the business in 1980. At the same time, Jane worked for the County Social Welfare Office and State SRS for 20 years and later was employed for 8 years at Kingman Hospital.
Jane had many interests and thoroughly enjoyed life. In her youth she won awards in penmanship, marksmanship and horsemanship. She loved to travel: trips to Alaska, the Glenn Miller Festival and France among her favorites. Spending time at the summer home in Manitou Springs, CO enabled her to enjoy the mountains with her family and friends as well. Through her love of music she became involved with "The Kitchen Band" in Kingman for many years. She was also known throughout Kingman for her long walks and bike rides in the city, often stopping to talk with friends. She was involved with the women bowlers in Kingman for a time.
Jane was an avid volunteer in many areas: Cub Scout Troop leader, 4-H adult sponsor, tutor, pink lady for Kingman Hospital, Red Cross Blood Drives, election poll worker, Kingman Hospital Auxiliary and Nu2U retail shop, Meals on Wheels and more.
Jane was a member of the Martha Vail Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the VFW Auxiliary, a Rotary Ann, Forest Home Grange, and served on the BOD of Wheatlands Assisted Living facility.
Survivors include her children and their spouses: Martha Erin and Carl Donald Smith, Wichita; Mary Kathleen and William Curtis Campbell, Wichita; Thomas Patrick and Velva Jean Imel, Lyons; Teresa Bedell Imel, Tucson, AZ. Grandchildren and their spouses: Kale Lars Campbell, Wichita; Velva Michelle and Douglas Benton Williams, Jr., St. Louis, Mo.; Karla Nicole and Kyle Bryce Wilcox, Manhattan, Ks; Laura Elizabeth Imel, Indianapolis, In.; Sean M. Smith, Wichita. Great grandchildren: Carter and Aiden Campbell. Niece and nephew: Alice (Mike) Fizer, Derby; G. Courtney Thomas, Seattle, WA.
Proceeded in death by: her parents; husband, Clarence Imel (Sept. 28, 1983); son Richard Kevin Imel (March 25, 2008); granddaughter Brenda Imel (Aug. 4, 1980).
Parish rosary will be 1:30 p.m., Friday, August 4, 2017 followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 2:00 p.m., both at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Kingman. Burial will be in the Hoosier Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon Friday, at Livingston Funeral Home, Kingman.
