Jean Pulliam, 85, died Aug. 16, 2013, at the Wheatlands Health Care Center in Kingman from complications of Alzheimer's disease.
Jean was born May 10, 1928 at Ashland Kansas. Her family moved to Wichita, KS, where she graduated from Wichita East High School in 1946. Jean attended Wichita University, earning a teaching certificate after two years. She moved to Kingman in 1948 where she began teaching kindergarten.
She met Robert "Bob" Pulliam while teaching in Kingman, and they were married Aug. 6, 1950 at Wichita.
After raising two children, Jean returned to Wichita State University, graduating with a teaching degree in 1966, and she began teaching first grade in Kingman in 1966. She continued teaching first grade until her retirement in 1991. One of her great joys was seeing her students learn to read in their year in her class.
Following her retirement, Jean and Bob served as hosts for a number of Heritage bus tours with destinations to New England, Yellowstone Park, Alaska and to the Rose Bowl Parade.
Jean was a member of the Kingman Christian Church. She loved her years singing in the church choir and spending time with the women of the Church's quilting group and the Silly Old Grandmother's Club. She also was a member of Eastern Star, the Shakespeare Club, Cereus Club and participated in many community activities in Kingman.
Jean is survived by her children Kent Pulliam and wife Gina of Kansas City, Mo; Kathy Rapp and husband Steve of Las Vegas, Nev.; grandsons Kevin Rapp and his family Kelly, Bennett and Avery of Springfield, Mo., and Todd Rapp and his family Malin and Ella of Seattle, Wash.; and by her brother Jerry Frazier of San Antonio, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband Bob Pulliam and parents Allan Frazier and Violet Wright Frazier.
The family appreciates the loving care given to our mother by the staff of the Wheatlands Health Care Center in Kingman.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 23, at the Kingman Christian Church. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Livingston Funeral Home, Kingman.
