JUDITH J."JUDY" BALES

Judith J. "Judy" Bales of Kingman, passed to her eternal rewards on June 3, 2018, at the Prairie Sunset Home, Pretty Prairie, Kansas.

She was born August 23, 1939, in Holyrood, Kansas the daughter of Victor Rodney Vorhees and Inez Marie (Wilson) Vorhees.

Judy graduated from Central Christian Academy of McPherson, Kansas in 1957 and received an Associates Degree from Central College in McPherson, Kansas in 1959. She was a clerk for 18 years at Kansas Gas Service, Calista Compressor Station.

Judy was always interested in competitive sports as a spectator and player. She played college basketball, coached many age groups of softball teams, bowled, snow skied and loved to fish. Judy also enjoyed choir music, guitar playing, pitching horseshoes and watching and yelling for KU Jayhawks basketball. Some summers were also spent driving wheat trucks and working in a cannery in Washington and Oregon.

On August 14, 1959, she married Don Bales in McPherson, Kansas. They shared over 58 years of marriage. Judy is survived by her husband Don; son Shane (Karen); daughter, Brenda (Janene); brother Dr. Vic Vorhees (Jean); grandsons Casey (Jennifer), Cody (Skylar); great-granddaughters Bostyn and Reese; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a great-grandson, Easton.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 8, 2018, at the First Baptist Church, 200 N. Spruce, Kingman, Kansas. Friends may call after 1:00 p.m., Thursday at the Livingston Funeral Home, Kingman with the family present from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Walnut Hill Cemetery.

Memorials may be made Heartland Hospice or the First Baptist Church, Kingman in care of the funeral home.
