Mary Lou Weniger-Gangel, age 65, passed on Saturday, May 18, 2019, at her home in Kingman, KS. Mary was born on December 12, 1953, in Kingman, KS to Watson & Reva Jo (Schlup) Weniger. She is survived by siblings Eugene Weniger, Nancy (Jim) Phelps, David Weniger, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mary attended high school at Kingman High then went on to study Social Work at Bethany Lutheran College in Lindsborg, KS. While there, she was a proud member of Sigma Phi Omega sorority and every Easter participated in the performance of Handel's great oratorio, the Messiah. Her favorite part was the 'Hallelujah Chorus' which she made sure to listen to every Easter since her college days.
After college, she spent most of career as a social worker with the Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services in Great Bend and Wichita, KS. She carried a caseload of foster children before moving into licensing foster families and facilities. She spent some time in Reno, NV with her beloved sister before moving back to her hometown of Kingman for the remainder of her time.
Mary enjoyed antiques, family history, holiday decorating and crafting, specifically making ornate, hand-made cards.
Her last few months of life were in a valiant battle against cancer. Her faith in God kept her going and gave her the strength to fight. She will be greatly missed and remembered for her loving and gentle spirit.
The family will greet friends for the viewing and a time of fellowship at Livingstons Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, May 24th from 6:30-7:30 p.m. with a memorial ceremony immediately following at 7:30 p.m.
A memorial has been established with the Mary Weniger-Gangel Memorial fund in care of the Livingstons Funeral Home.
