NANCY MAE (SCHINDLER) WYMAN RUSSEL
Dec. 28, 1940 – June 3, 2019
Nancy Mae (Schindler) Russel passed away at her home in Wichita, KS to be with her Lord on Monday, June 3, 2019, at the age of 78 years old. She was born December 28, 1940, in Nashville, KS to Paul B. and Evelyn (Thiel) Schindler. Her early years were spent on her parent's farm between Zenda, KS in Kingman County and Attica, KS in Harper County. During her 8th grade year, her parents moved just North of Cleveland, KS in Kingman County where she graduated from 8th grade. The following year her parents moved to Kingman where she attended and graduated from Kingman High School in 1959.
In September of 1962, she wed Claude Wyman, Jr. and they moved to Denver, CO, where she worked as a telephone bill collector for the next eleven years. Three children were born from her marriage with Claude, even though the marriage was short lived. After her divorce, she spent the next five years as sole support of her three children. Being a single mom was most difficult at that time, even though she made good money at her job.
In September of 1971, Nancy met the love of her life, Donald Lee Russel. They were married on October 26, 1973, in Miami, OK, and made their home in Wichita, KS. Two sons were born of this marriage and her three older children were adopted by her husband. Nancy became a stay-at-home mom for the next several years. She and her husband owned a landscape company and later in life owned a plumbing company.
Next to her faith, family was always the most important thing to Nancy, and she frequently surrounded herself with family. In particular her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Nancy instilled in her children a never-ending love for many pets and animals over the years including dogs, cats, birds, fish and more.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 46 years, Don; sons, Derek (Jenny), Darren (Brenda), Damon (Eric Steele), and Devin; daughter Danine (Larry) Oxendine; grandchildren, Charity (Joe) Martinez, Nathan (Casey), Brian Oxendine, Larry Oxendine, Jr., Michael Conroy, Charlee Conroy, Clarissa Olson, Marissa Blakely, Aspen Meyers, Karlee Spear, Farren Russel, Thomas Denholm, Brittney Roberts, Mercedes Russel, Christian Russel, and many great-grandchildren; step-grandchildren; step-great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a sister Betty Weaver; two ex-daughters-in-law; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Nancy is preceded in death by her father Paul Schindler and her mother, Evelyn Thiel Schindler; both sets of grandparents, Moritz and Emma (Orthmeier) Schindler and Neville Nick and Lillie Mae (Nye) Thiel; three infant children, Ranita Lanai Wyman, Dallas Wayne Russel and Dawn Michelle Russel; and her first husband Claude Wyman, Jr.; brothers-in-law, Ronald Lee Weaver, Robert McVey, Albert Jackson; Laverne Synder, sister-in-law Yvonne Snyder Pickel; niece Kathy Sue McVey Gray and her husband Lau0rence Gray.
