WATERLOO, KANSAS.
Rita Ann Reida, RN died at her home Feb. 22, 2015, of complications following an automobile accident. She was born in 1934 in Kingman, Kansas, to Wm. L. and Mable (Rowley) Sheahan and grew up on a farm near Willowdale, Kansas. She graduated from St. Peter's School in Willowdale and Zenda, Kansas, High School. She attended St. Mary's of the Plains College in Dodge City one year and completed her nurses training at St. Joseph Hospital at Wichita – St Joseph School of Nursing.
She married Byron Reida of Zenda in 1955 at Willowdale. After living a short time in Manhattan, Kansas, she traveled to Idar-Oberstein, Germany, to join Byron, who was stationed at the army base at Baumholder, Germany. Their oldest son was born there.
She lived in Andale and Clearwater, Kansas, before moving to the farm near Waterloo.
She did nursing in several places in Sedgwick and Kingman counties, mainly in nursing homes, the most years in Kingman.
She is survived by her husband, her children, Randy (Christa), Ft. Mitchell, KT; Susan (Bruce) Sterneker, Kingman; Wendel (Christine), Wichita; Stephen (Angela), Wichita; Linda (Todd) Strain, S. Hutchinson.; 13 grandchildren, and 1 great-granddaughter; brothers Jimmy and Dennis; and sisters Pat Roberts and Judy Hageman.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Lawrence and Gerald, and sisters Rose Mary Kerschen and Elaine Wells.
Besides being proud of the fact that all her ancestors were Irish, she was proud, and gratified, in her retirement years, of the number of people she did not recognize that would tell her how much they appreciated the care she gave a loved one of theirs.
Rosary services will be at 6:30, Thursday, Feb. 26, at Livingston Funeral Home, Kingman. There will be refreshments and commemorations in the Livingston Family Hall afterwards. You are welcome if you miss the 6:30 services. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, Feb 27, at 11 am in St. Louis Church, Waterloo.
Burial service will be in the Walnut Hill cemetery, Kingman, Kansas, after the dinner at St. Louis hall following the mass.
