Robert Ellis Christensen, 84, Carmel, Indiana, passed away on April 24, 2012 in Indianapolis after a courageous battle with congestive heart failure.
He was born in Horton, Kansas, on August 31,1927, to Colonel Ellis G. and Irma Shaw Christensen. Robert grew up in Emporia, Kansas, attending Emporia High School, and graduated with a BA in History from the University of Kansas, where he was a member of Delta Upsilon fraternity.
On July 12, 1954, he married Jean Seifert at Kingman, Kansas; she preceded him in death in 1986.
Robert was a career U.S. Army officer, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel after 23 years of service. His tours of duty included post-WWII Japan, the Korean Conflict, France, Germany, and South Korea. He later worked as a branch manager at Fletcher Savings and Loan, and as the assistant treasurer and branch coordinator of Union Federal Savings and Loan, both in Indianapolis.
A long time resident of Carmel, he loved traveling the world and meeting new people. He valued his many friends he met through his travels and his membership in Broadway United Methodist Church in Indianapolis.
Robert is survived by a daughter Kay Wahl, son-in-law Tim and granddaughters, Margaret, Emily,and step-granddaughter, Shelagh, of Davidson, North Carolina, and a son Phil, daughter-in-law Lynda, and step-grandchildren, Nick, Greg and Cassie Brill of Austin, Texas.
A private family memorial service will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 30, 2012, at the Livingston Funeral Home, Kingman. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home. Interment will be next to his wife in Lebanon Cemetery, Varner, Kansas.
